As the first week of January 2025 wraps up, excitement builds among Pokemon GO players for the upcoming Spotlight Hour event scheduled for this Tuesday. With a flurry of events already underway, including Max Mondays and Community Days, players should ensure they have a stockpile of Pokeballs and berries ready for this special hour.
Pokemon GO is renowned for its diverse monthly events, and the weekly Spotlight Hours are a highlight, focusing on a specific Pokemon that players can catch, and potentially snag a Shiny version of. Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming event.
Voltorb & Hisuian Voltorb Spotlight Hour
The Pokemon GO Spotlight Hour kicks off on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, from 6 PM to 7 PM local time. This week's spotlight features both Voltorb and Hisuian Voltorb, offering players a chance to catch Shiny versions of these electric types. Both Pokemon offer significant benefits, particularly when extra damage is needed in battles.
Given that two Pokemon are featured this week, players should prepare by stocking up on Pokeballs, Berries, and Incense. These items will enhance the chances of catching and evolving these Pokemon into their Shiny forms. Additionally, ensure you have ample space in your Pokemon storage, as you'll be catching numerous Voltorb and Hisuian Voltorb and may not want to pause to transfer them during the event.
Voltorb, listed as #100 in the Pokedex, hails from the Kanto region's Generation 1. It can be traded and transferred to Pokemon Home. Catching Voltorb rewards players with 3 candies and 100 Stardust. As the initial stage of a two-stage evolution, Voltorb evolves into Electrode with 50 candies. With a maximum CP of 1141, 109 Attack, and 111 Defense, Voltorb can deliver substantial damage when needed. As an Electric-type Pokemon, it is vulnerable to Ground-type attacks (160% damage) but resistant to Electric, Flying, and Steel-type moves (63% damage). The optimal moveset for Voltorb is Spark and Discharge, yielding 5.81 DPS and 40.62 TDO, with performance boosted in rainy conditions. A blue Shiny variant of Voltorb is also available.
Hisuian Voltorb, also #100 in the Pokedex, shares the same Kanto Generation 1 origins and can be traded and transferred to Pokemon Home. It evolves into Hisuian Electrode with 50 candies, offering 3 candies and 100 Stardust upon capture. Like Voltorb, it has a max CP of 1141, 111 Defense, and 109 Attack, and is an Electric-type Pokemon. However, Hisuian Voltorb has different damage interactions, taking increased damage from Bug, Fire, Ice, and Poison types (160% damage), reduced damage from Grass, Steel, and Water types (63% damage), and minimal damage from other Electric types (39% damage). The best moveset for Hisuian Voltorb is Tackle and Thunderbolt, providing 5.39 DPS and 37.60 TDO, with damage boosted in Partly Cloudy and Rainy weather. Its Shiny version features a black body instead of the usual orange.
