James Gunn has officially announced that a new Wonder Woman movie is in production, revealing that the script is currently being written.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly to promote the upcoming Superman release, DC Studios co-chief Gunn clarified that this Wonder Woman project is distinct from the previously announced Paradise Lost HBO Max series.
"We're actively developing Wonder Woman," Gunn stated. "The screenplay is currently in progress."

Beyond comics, Diana of Themyscira has faced challenges recently. Gal Gadot's live-action franchise stalled after Wonder Woman 1984 received mixed reviews, the character has never starred in her own animated series, and her debut solo video game – announced back in 2021 – was ultimately canceled.
As IGN journalist Carlos Morales noted, "At the peak of Marvel-DC rivalry in the late 2010s, the first Wonder Woman film stood as one of DC's clearest victories. The 2017 movie earned widespread critical praise and grossed over $800 million worldwide. Following divisive reactions to Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad, Patty Jenkins' portrayal resonated deeply with audiences... Sadly, 2020's Wonder Woman 1984 proved disappointing, dividing critics and failing to recover production costs theatrically."
The sequel released simultaneously on HBO Max and in theaters due to pandemic-related audience hesitancy.
While a third installment entered development, progress stalled until Gunn's recent announcement. With a new movie confirmed, discussions about Diana's casting will inevitably resurface.
Superman launches July 11, marking the ambitious beginning of Gunn's DCU reboot. It precedes Peacemaker Season 2's HBO Max debut on August 21, 2025. Supergirl arrives June 26, 2026, though Green Lanterns lacks a premiere date.
Other confirmed DCU projects include Clayface (September 11, 2026), though The Authority faces development hurdles. Gunn acknowledged Peacemaker spinoff Waller has encountered "some setbacks," while Booster Gold progresses steadily and Paradise Lost advances slowly.
