Elemental effects have been a core feature in Wuthering Waves since launch, primarily offering character buffs and enemy resistances. Unlike reaction-focused systems in games like Genshin Impact, Wuthering Waves initially emphasized elemental enhancements and resistances. Version 2.0 significantly alters this, introducing Elemental Effects with more direct character interactions, moving beyond passive buffs and resistances.

While elemental effects existed earlier, applied mainly by enemies (like Lampylumen Myriad's freezing effect), Version 2.0 expands this mechanic to characters. Each element boasts a unique status effect:
