"Alien: Earth" release, cast, plot details unveiled

Alien: Earth Series Premiere Date Announced for August 12

Alien: Earth Premiere Details

The highly anticipated series Alien: Earth will debut its first two episodes on August 12 at 8pm ET exclusively on Hulu in the U.S., with simultaneous international releases on FX and Disney+ at 8pm PT/ET. Subsequent episodes of the eight-part season will air weekly every Tuesday.

Temporal Setting and Story Context

Set in 2120 - bridging the gap between Prometheus and the original Alien film - Noah Hawley's series follows the crash landing of the USCSS Maginot research vessel on Earth. The story centers on Wendy (Sydney Chandler) and a team of soldiers who uncover a discovery that confronts them with Earth's ultimate threat.

Notably, Alien: Romulus serves as a chronological midpoint between the first two films.

Corporate Dystopia and Technological Evolution

The series depicts an Earth ruled by five megacorporations:

  • Weyland-Yutani (franchise mainstay)
  • Prodigy
  • Lynch
  • Dynamic
  • Threshold
This corporate era features coexistence between humans, cyborgs, and synthetics, until Prodigy CEO introduces revolutionary hybrids - robots housing human consciousness. Wendy represents the first successful hybrid prototype.

New Threats Revealed

A catastrophic collision between Weyland-Yutani's ship and Prodigy City exposes Wendy and fellow hybrids to undisclosed lifeforms surpassing all imaginable horrors. Series details hint at five distinct monstrous entities beyond standard Xenomorphs.

Official Series Synopsis

In 2120's Corporate Era, human-cyborg coexistence faces disruption when Prodigy Corporation pioneers consciousness-transfer technology through hybrid creation. After a spaceship collision devastates Prodigy City, prototype hybrid Wendy encounters unimaginable extraterrestrial threats that redefine humanity's understanding of terror.

Cast Highlights

  • Sydney Chandler as Wendy
  • Timothy Olyphant as Kirsh
  • Alex Lawther as Hermit
  • Essie Davis as Dame Sylvia
  • Adarsh Gourav as Slightly

Creative Direction

Showrunner Noah Hawley confirmed deliberately distancing from Prometheus backstory, favoring the original films' aesthetic. Despite consulting Ridley Scott, Hawley opted against bioweapon narratives, embracing classic franchise lore.

The Alien universe continues expanding, with Alien: Romulus 2 in development and franchise crossovers including Predator: Badlands.
