Early Access FPS Faces Uncertain Future After Developer's Incarceration
The Steam FPS Fortune's Run has entered development limbo following its creator's three-year prison sentence, leaving the early access title's future in question. While game delays typically stem from technical or financial hurdles, this situation presents a rare case of development stalling due to legal consequences.
A Promising Game In Peril
Prior to this development, Fortune's Run had garnered positive reception on Steam with a "Very Positive" rating. Players praised its retro-inspired visuals and innovative mechanics despite its early access status. The game now joins titles like Half-Life 2 that have endured extended development periods, though its circumstances remain exceptional.
Developer Reveals Sentence in Steam Update
In a January 14th Steam announcement, developer Dizzie disclosed their impending three-year incarceration beginning February 2025. While not detailing the charges, Dizzie acknowledged past violent behavior preceding the game's development. This follows recent cases like streamer Johnny Somali's legal troubles in South Korea, though game delays due to imprisonment remain uncommon.
Solo Development Challenges
Originally a two-person project, Fortune's Run became a solo endeavor after Dizzie's team member withdrew following medical recovery, abandoning game development entirely. With its lone creator incarcerated, the project faces complete stagnation despite its planned 2026 early access exit - a timeline now unrealistic given the circumstances.
Dizzie maintains confidence in completing the game post-release, citing examples like Satisfactory's five-year early access period. For now, players can still access the current build while awaiting the developer's return, with other early access shooters available to fill the gap during this unexpected hiatus.
