Dynasty Warriors: Origins ups the ante with significantly more challenging enemies. Producer Tomohiko Sho's directive to the development team? "Go and kill the player." This simple instruction dramatically altered the gameplay experience. Learn more about these impactful changes in the latest Dynasty Warriors installment!
A Deadlier Battlefield: "Go And Kill The Player"

In an interview with PlayStation.Blog, Sho revealed the reasoning behind the increased enemy difficulty. The goal was to inject a heightened sense of realism. The battlefield isn't just a stage for the player; enemy soldiers and generals are fighting for survival, too.

While significantly increasing the difficulty, Sho emphasized a balance. The challenges are designed to be rewarding and attainable, fostering a sense of accomplishment. He aimed for a design that allows players of varying skill levels to progress and experience success. The challenge was to successfully meld the traditional "musou" exhilaration of overwhelming enemies with the gritty realism of a warzone.
A Return to the "Origins": A New Chapter

A notable departure from the series' norm is the absence of a numerical title. Instead of Dynasty Warriors 10, we have Dynasty Warriors: Origins. This marks the first non-numbered entry in the franchise's history.
The "Origins" subtitle highlights the game's focus on the first half of Romance of the Three Kingdoms, unlike previous entries that covered the entire narrative. In a Tokyo Game Show 2024 interview with TheGamer, Sho clarified that the story concludes with the Battle of Chibi (Battle of Red Cliffs). The decision was made to create a more focused and intense narrative experience around this pivotal moment.

Seven years in the making, Dynasty Warriors: Origins is the latest mainline installment in the long-running series based on Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Featuring an original protagonist, the Nameless Hero, players embark on a journey through a war-torn China.
Released on January 17th, Dynasty Warriors: Origins is available on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Read Game8's review for a more in-depth look!
