"Firaxis: Hope Remains for Gandhi in Civilization 7"

Author : Aaron Update:Apr 22,2025

The release of Civilization 7 has sparked a buzz among fans, especially regarding the absence of a familiar face: Indian leader Gandhi. A staple in the series since the first game in 1991, Gandhi's absence from the base game of Civilization 7 has left many wondering about his fate. Known for the legendary, yet debunked, 'Nuclear Gandhi' bug, his absence has been a notable omission.

In an interview with Civilization 7 lead designer Ed Beach, fans received some reassuring news. Beach indicated that Gandhi is not forgotten and hinted at a future inclusion as part of downloadable content (DLC). "So I would say we haven't forgotten about anybody who's been in our game before," Beach stated. He further elaborated on the broader strategy for including civilizations, mentioning the roadmap that guides their decisions on which civilizations to include in the base game versus DLC.

Beach also touched on the challenge of balancing iconic civilizations with new, exciting additions. "One thing I always think about is, we've had the same situation where iconic civilizations haven't been in our base game before," he explained. He cited examples like Mongolia and Persia from previous games, emphasizing the necessity of leaving some popular choices out to make room for fresh content. "So we always have to leave somebody out. There're just too many popular choices and we always want to have a few fresh ones that sound really new and exciting to people," he added, giving hope to Gandhi fans for his eventual return.

In the meantime, Civilization 7 is addressing other concerns, such as its 'mixed' user review rating on Steam. Issues like user interface problems, a lack of map variety, and missing key features have been points of contention among the community. In response, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged these criticisms but remained optimistic about the game's future, citing the loyalty of the "legacy Civ audience" and describing the game's early performance as "very encouraging."

For players eager to conquer the world in Civilization 7, numerous resources are available. Guides on achieving every type of victory, understanding the significant changes from Civilization 6, and avoiding common mistakes can be found. Additionally, explanations of the various map types and difficulty settings are provided to help players navigate their journey in the game.
