In Hyper Light Breaker, players navigate a world rich with resources, and among the most sought-after are Golden Rations. These rare items are crucial for accessing some of the game's most significant upgrades.
The game itself offers little guidance on the various materials and resources available, leaving players to discover them through trial and error. For those eager to bypass this learning curve, here’s a detailed guide on how to reliably obtain Golden Rations.
Where to Get Golden Rations
In the early access version of Hyper Light Breaker, you can secure Golden Rations through two primary methods: exploration and cycle resets. During your runs, keep an eye out for chest icons on the map. These chests often hold resources that can be used for purchases or unlocking upgrades, and you might just find Golden Rations within them. You'll recognize a chest with Golden Rations by the distinct Golden Ration icon hovering above it.
Areas marked with Prisms (denoted by a golden diamond icon on the map) are also hotspots for finding Golden Ration chests.
The second method involves cycle resets. Each cycle corresponds to an instance of the Overgrowth and resets when your Rez count hits zero. Upon exhausting your revives, you'll have the option to either retry the map at the cost of resources or reset the entire cycle at the Cursed Outpost. After a cycle reset, you'll receive a score, and achieving a high enough rank can reward you with Golden Rations.
What are Golden Rations For?
Golden Rations serve as a vital resource in Hyper Light Breaker, essential for player progression. They are primarily used to unlock permanent upgrades at your home base, allowing you to enhance your characters or unlock new vendor services.
Moreover, Golden Rations are key to unlocking Sycoms, which define your chosen Breaker's stats and core passive abilities. Sycoms significantly influence your Breaker's playstyle, making them highly valuable.
When you first obtain a Golden Ration, we recommend investing in the extra medkit upgrade available from Pherus Bit. This upgrade can make subsequent runs more manageable, particularly in a game where combat mistakes are heavily penalized.
Even if you die during a run, you'll retain any resources you've collected. However, the weapons, amps, and perks you carried will sustain damage, potentially leading to their permanent destruction.
