MachineGames, the studio behind Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, has confirmed that players will not be able to harm dogs in the upcoming game. This decision marks a departure from the studio's previous work, which often featured animal combat.
A "Dog Person" Protagonist
Creative Director Jens Andersson explained to IGN that the decision stems from Indiana Jones's character and the game's overall tone. "Indiana Jones is a dog person," Andersson stated. While the game will feature intense action sequences against human enemies, canine encounters will be non-lethal. Dogs may be present as obstacles, but players will only scare them away, not harm them. Andersson emphasized the family-friendly nature of the Indiana Jones IP and the team's commitment to maintaining that image.
Gameplay and Setting
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is set in 1937, between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. The story begins with Indy pursuing stolen artifacts from Marshall College, leading him on a globe-trotting adventure from the Vatican to Egyptian pyramids and even the underwater temples of Sukhothai. Indy's whip will serve as both a traversal tool and a weapon against human adversaries in open-world-inspired environments.
The game launches December 9th on Xbox Series X|S and PC, with a PS5 release planned for Spring 2025. Rest assured, dog lovers, Indy's whip will remain firmly out of reach of any four-legged friends.
