YouTuber Jacksepticeye, whose real name is Seán William McLoughlin, has shared his disappointment over a failed project in a new video titled 'A Bad Month.' He disclosed that he had been working on an animated adaptation of the critically acclaimed survival horror game Soma, developed by Frictional Games, for an entire year. The project, however, abruptly fell apart, leaving Jacksepticeye "quite upset."
Soma, which was released in 2015, has been a favorite of Jacksepticeye's. He extensively streamed the game upon its release and often cites it as one of the best video games due to its compelling story. Excited about the animated show, Jacksepticeye had been in discussions with the developers for a year and was ready to move into full production. He even delayed playing the game in one video to align with the show's announcement.

In his video, Jacksepticeye explained that the project collapsed suddenly when an unnamed party decided to go "in a different direction." He chose not to delve into the specifics, citing his emotional response to the situation. The cancellation has significantly impacted his plans for 2025, leaving him uncertain about his priorities and future projects.
"I had planned a lot of my year around it," Jacksepticeye said. "I was like, you know what? I won’t be able to upload as much because I’ll be focusing everything I have into that. But at least I’ll have a really cool creative thing to show off. And then it all fell apart."
Following Soma, Frictional Games released two more entries in the Amnesia series: Amnesia: Rebirth in 2020 and Amnesia: The Bunker in 2023. In July 2023, Frictional's creative director Thomas Grip mentioned that the company aimed to shift focus from horror to explore other emotional qualities in their games. Grip emphasized the goal of creating immersive experiences, whether as a World War I soldier or a robot at the ocean's bottom, and hinted at exploring themes beyond just horror.
