Nicolas Cage Calls AI Performances a 'Dead End', as 'Robots Cannot Reflect the Human Condition'

Author : Isabella Update:Mar 21,2025

Nicolas Cage delivered a passionate speech against the use of artificial intelligence in acting, accepting his Best Actor Saturn Award for his role in Dream Scenario. He warned fellow actors against allowing AI to influence their performances, arguing that robots are incapable of truly reflecting the human condition. Cage emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity and authenticity of artistic expression, fearing that reliance on AI would ultimately prioritize financial gain over artistic merit. He stated that the role of art is to mirror the human experience through thoughtful and emotional recreation, a process he believes AI cannot replicate. He urged actors to protect themselves from AI interference, ensuring their work remains genuine and heartfelt.

The concerns Cage expressed are not unique. Several voice actors, including Ned Luke (Grand Theft Auto 5) and Doug Cockle (The Witcher), have voiced similar anxieties, highlighting the potential for AI to replace human performers and negatively impact their livelihoods. Cockle acknowledged AI's inevitability but stressed its inherent dangers.

The film industry's response to AI is divided. While Tim Burton expressed deep unease about AI-generated art, directors like Zack Snyder advocate for embracing the technology rather than resisting it.
