World of Warcraft is set to introduce the Blazing Royal Fire Hawk and the Golden Ashes of Al’ar as exclusive rewards through two unique promotions in China. Although these mounts are not yet available in other regions, they are reimagined versions of the rare Pureblood Fire Hawk and Ashes of Al’ar, which are known as some of the most elusive raid boss drops in the game.
Following the recent reestablishment of the partnership between NetEase and Blizzard, World of Warcraft, alongside other popular titles like Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2, has made a triumphant return to China. This resurgence was celebrated with various initiatives, including the creation of a Lightforged Gorehowl statue and the introduction of the Xiao Liu pet, which offers a teleportation feature.
Now, WoW China is gearing up for another exciting promotion, featuring new iterations of these rare mounts. Starting January 15, players in China will have the chance to obtain the Blazing Royal Fire Hawk and the Golden Ashes of Al’ar through twin parallel promotions, which will be accessible in both modern and Classic WoW.
New Chinese World of Warcraft Promotion Mounts
- Blazing Royal Fire Hawk
- Golden Ashes of Al'ar
The Blazing Royal Fire Hawk, while resembling the Pureblood Fire Hawk—a rare drop from Ragnaros in WoW: Cataclysm’s Firelands raid—features distinctive xiangyun, or “auspicious clouds,” within its wings during flight. These clouds are symbolic of peace, immortality, and good fortune, reflecting their deep cultural significance in China, which dates back over 3000 years. The Golden Ashes of Al’ar, a resplendent version of the Ashes of Al’ar, is adorned with a stylish black saddle and includes flavor text that echoes Kael’thas Sunstrider’s iconic line from The Burning Crusade’s The Eye raid: “The golden Al'ar, beloved pet of Kael'thas Sunstrider, proves that death is merely a setback."

To acquire the Blazing Royal Fire Hawk, players must participate in an event known as the Treasure Workshop, though the specifics of this event remain undisclosed at the moment. Conversely, the Golden Ashes of Al’ar can be obtained from Landro’s Loot Box, which costs ¥200, or approximately $27. Each box contains one of eight items, with other high-value rewards such as the X-51 Nether Rocket X-TREME and the Swift Spectral Tiger—a highly coveted mount from World of Warcraft’s discontinued Trading Card Game (TCG)—also up for grabs. Fans can join teams and purchase these loot boxes together, earning additional crates as they reach certain spending thresholds.
While the new Xiao Liu pet has sparked hopes of an international release, there is currently no indication that the Blazing Royal Fire Hawk or Golden Ashes of Al’ar will be made available globally. For now, players outside China can only admire these breathtaking mounts from a distance.
