Kadokawa, now backed by Sony Group, sets ambitious goal of 9,000 original IP publications annually. This represents a significant increase from their 2023 output and is detailed in their medium-term management plan.

Sony's Major Investment Fuels Expansion
Following Sony's substantial investment and acquisition of a 10% stake, Kadokawa aims to publish 9,000 original IP titles per year by fiscal year 2027. This ambitious target, revealed by President Takeshi Natsuno to Nikkei, represents a 1.5 times increase from their 2023 figures. The company projects reaching 7,000 titles by fiscal 2025.

With Sony Group as its largest shareholder, Kadokawa plans to leverage Sony's global distribution network to expand its reach internationally.

To support this growth, Kadokawa will expand its editorial staff by 1.4 times, aiming for approximately 1,000 employees, ensuring efficient workflow and sustainable expansion.
A Media Mix Strategy for Enhanced IP Development
Kadokawa intends to enhance its offerings through a "media mix strategy," adapting successful IPs into anime, games, and other media. President Natsuno emphasized the goal of creating a system where diversity leads to major successes.

This collaboration benefits Sony significantly, particularly Crunchyroll, its anime streaming platform with over 15 million paid subscribers. The partnership will expand Crunchyroll's anime library with more Kadokawa IPs.

Kadokawa's extensive IP portfolio includes titles like Bungo Stray Dogs, Oshi no Ko, The Rising of the Shield Hero, and My Happy Marriage, along with video game IPs such as Elden Ring and the Danganronpa series. Sony's interest in the multimedia market aligns perfectly, aiming for live-action adaptations and co-producing anime for global distribution.
