According to a report by Insider Gaming, the extraction shooter set in the Far Cry universe, originally codenamed Project Maverick and set in Alaska, has undergone a complete reboot. Initially planned as a multiplayer expansion for Far Cry 7, the project faced significant changes following an internal review. Despite receiving positive feedback from both employees and testers, Ubisoft's management chose to redirect the majority of resources towards Project Blackbird, known as Far Cry 7. The decision to reassign the technical team to other tasks marked the end of the multiplayer component for Project Maverick.
The project's responsibility has now shifted to Ubisoft Sherbrooke, a studio known for its development support expertise. Almost the entire original team behind Project Maverick has been reassigned to work on the upcoming Far Cry 7.

In mid-December 2024, insider Tom Henderson revealed that Far Cry 7 aims to immerse players in an environment filled with tension and desperation, with time as the central adversary. The game's narrative centers on the protagonist's mission to rescue their family, who have been kidnapped by a sinister cult conducting terrifying experiments using hallucinogens on animals and children. Players will have a stringent 72-hour in-game window—translating to 24 real-time hours—to save their loved ones, making time a critical gameplay mechanic that injects urgency into every moment.
A key feature of Far Cry 7 will be the integration of a timer into the protagonist's wristwatch, serving as a constant reminder of the ticking clock. This element is designed to increase the sense of urgency and pressure, compelling players to make swift and strategic decisions. Far Cry 7 is set to offer a distinctive gaming experience where every second is vital, and each decision carries significant weight.
