Electronic Arts' soccer simulators have long been under scrutiny, not only for their monetization strategies but also for their technical performance. The recent release of EA Sports FC 25 has intensified this criticism, prompting the developers to take action. They have introduced a "Gameplay Refresh Update" that includes over 50 modifications to the game mechanics. Here are some of the key changes:
- Significant updates to core gameplay systems including assists, shots, goalkeeper play, and defense play.
- Resolution of frequent issues where defenders easily caught up with ball carriers.
- Enhanced smoothness in attacking play, making it easier to maneuver the ball.
- Reduced occurrence of reverse tackles and AI interceptions.
- Significantly decreased effectiveness of crossing passes.
- Quicker player support when positioned in familiar roles.
- Better offside detection for AI-controlled offensive runs.
- Slightly improved accuracy for normal and aimed shots from outside the penalty area under simple conditions.
Despite these efforts, only 36% of the 474 player reviews upon the release of EA FC 25 were positive, indicating a predominantly negative reception. The community's frustration stems from multiple issues, including perceived greed by Electronic Arts, numerous bugs and crashes, and difficulties in recognizing PlayStation controllers.
Furthermore, the game's anti-cheat mechanism has rendered it incompatible with the Steam Deck, adding to the list of grievances against EA Sports FC 25.
