Pixel Tribe's Goddess Order: A Deep Dive into Pixel Art, World-Building, and Combat

This interview features Ilsun (Art Director) and Terron J. (Contents Director) from Pixel Tribe, the developers behind the upcoming Kakao Games title, Goddess Order. They offer insights into the creation of this pixel RPG.

Crafting Pixel Perfection

Droid Gamers: What inspires your pixel sprites?

Ilsun: Goddess Order, a mobile action RPG, builds upon the pixel art success of Crusaders Quest. Our high-quality pixel art aims for a console-like feel, emphasizing storytelling. Inspiration isn't drawn from specific sources but from a broad well of gaming experiences and everyday observations. The collaborative process is key; the initial characters (Lisbeth, Violet, and Jan) evolved through team discussions, shaping the game's art style. Concept art is often sparked by scenario writers and combat designers pitching character ideas, leading to collaborative refinement.

From Characters to Worlds

Droid Gamers: How do you build the fantasy world?

Terron J.: World-building starts with the characters. Lisbeth, Violet, and Jan defined the game's core. Their inherent personalities, missions, and stories shaped the narrative. The focus on manual controls stems from the characters' strength and the immersive storytelling experience. The scenario writing felt less like work and more like a collaborative journey.

Designing Dynamic Combat

Droid Gamers: How do you design combat styles and animations?

Terron J.: Goddess Order's combat involves three characters using linked skills. Design focuses on unique character roles (damage dealers, support, etc.) and strategic battle formations. The team ensures each character offers a distinct advantage and avoids cumbersome controls.

Ilsun: Visually representing these roles is crucial. We consider three-dimensional movement in our 2D pixel art. The studio uses real-world weapons to study movement for authentic animations.

Terron J.: Technical optimization is key for smooth mobile gameplay, ensuring consistent performance even on lower-spec devices without sacrificing cutscene immersion.

The Future of Goddess Order

Ilsun: Goddess Order tells the story of the Lisbeth Knights saving the world. Future updates will include expanded chapter scenarios, origin stories, additional activities (quests, treasure hunts), and challenging advanced content.
