PlayStation Productions Unveils Ambitious Slate of Game Adaptations at CES 2025
PlayStation Productions made a significant splash at CES 2025, announcing a diverse range of upcoming game adaptations spanning film and television. The January 7th presentation showcased projects extending beyond 2025.

Among the highlights was the announcement of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, a new anime series slated for a 2027 premiere on Crunchyroll. The series, a collaboration between Crunchyroll, Aniplex, and Sony Music, will be directed by Takanobu Mizumo, with story composition by Gen Urobuchi.

Further bolstering the lineup are film adaptations of Horizon Zero Dawn (produced by Sony Pictures) and Helldivers 2 (handled by Columbia Pictures). Details on these projects remain scarce. Adding to the excitement, a film adaptation of Until Dawn was teased for an April 25, 2025 release.

Neil Druckmann, concluding the presentation, offered a brief update on Naughty Dog's Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet before unveiling a new trailer for The Last of Us season two, expanding upon the events of The Last of Us Part II and introducing characters like Abby and Dina.
A Legacy of Adaptations

This marks a significant expansion for PlayStation Productions, building upon previous successes like the Uncharted film (2022), the Gran Turismo film (2023), and the Twisted Metal series (2023). While the reception of earlier video game adaptations, such as Resident Evil and Silent Hill, has been mixed, Uncharted and Gran Turismo demonstrated strong box office performance. The Twisted Metal series, though less critically acclaimed than The Last of Us, completed production of its second season in late 2024, with a release date yet to be announced.

Beyond the CES announcements, PlayStation Productions continues development on films based on Days Gone and a God of War TV series, along with a sequel to the Uncharted film. The company's trajectory suggests a continued expansion into adapting popular PlayStation franchises, driven by audience demand and the proven viability of video game adaptations in various media.
