In an exciting revelation at Gamescom, Mortal Kombat co-founder Ed Boon discussed the upcoming characters, Homelander and Omni-Man, in Mortal Kombat 1. Addressing fans' concerns about potential similarities in combat styles, Boon assured that NetherRealm Studios is committed to creating unique experiences for each character. He emphasized the creative freedom they have to develop distinct movesets, ensuring that Homelander and Omni-Man will not simply mirror each other's abilities, particularly avoiding overlapping Superman-like powers such as heat vision.
Boon highlighted how the development team is drawing inspiration directly from the heroes' actions in their respective shows, translating these into unique Fatalities and main attacks. This approach aims to dispel any assumptions that the two characters might feel the same to play. By focusing on what makes each hero unique, MK1 promises to deliver a diverse and engaging gameplay experience.
Ed Boon Confirms Homelander and Omni-Man Will Play Differently
During an interview with IGN at Gamescom, Boon elaborated on the efforts to differentiate Homelander and Omni-Man. He stated, "Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that." This commitment to variety ensures that players will feel as though they are controlling two very distinct heroes.
Boon further explained that the main attacks and Fatalities of Homelander and Omni-Man will be designed to highlight their unique traits. He acknowledged the assumptions some fans might have had about the characters being similar, but reassured, "They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them."
