Great news for Sam Fisher enthusiasts: Ubisoft has shown it hasn’t forgotten Splinter Cell by introducing Steam Achievements to 2013’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist.
The latest significant update on the Splinter Cell Remake came in 2022, when IGN sat down with Ubisoft Toronto developers to explore their design approach for the game. Meanwhile, Ubisoft quietly rolled out an updated achievement list for the 12-year-old Blacklist on Steam overnight.
Ubisoft announced: "Agents, we’re thrilled to share that Steam Achievements are now live for Splinter Cell: Blacklist!"
These achievements will be "automatically credited for progress already made in your game," though you’ll need to launch the game at least once. "After syncing, previously unlocked Ubisoft Connect achievements will seamlessly transfer to Steam," the team noted.
In addition to implementing achievements that can be "retroactively unlocked," Ubisoft opted not to include the 19 online achievements available on consoles, ensuring players can still fully complete the game on Steam.
The stealth-action franchise is poised for a comeback with a remake of the original Splinter Cell game. Details remain scarce, but the new version will be crafted from scratch using the cutting-edge Snowdrop engine.
“Two decades later, we can revisit the storyline, characters, and overall narrative of the game [and] refine elements that haven’t aged well,” said creative director Chris Auty at the time. “Yet, the essence of the story and experience will stay true to the original.”
Last month, Ubisoft established a subsidiary focused on its Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six brands, backed by a €1.16 billion (roughly $1.25 billion) investment from Chinese giant Tencent.
This followed Ubisoft’s announcement that Assassin’s Creed Shadows surpassed 3 million players. The company faced several high-profile setbacks, layoffs, studio closures, and game cancellations leading up to Shadows’ launch, with intense pressure to succeed after its stock price plummeted to a historic low.
