Sony has exciting news for gamers with the announcement of a new PlayStation studio, teamLFG, and a teaser of its debut game. In a recent PlayStation Blog post, Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business Group, revealed that teamLFG was formed at Bungie, the developers behind Destiny and Marathon, and is currently working on a highly anticipated incubation project.
The studio's name, teamLFG, stands for 'Looking For Group,' reflecting its focus on social gaming. Their first game is described as a team-based action game that blends elements from fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and even "frog-type games." The game is set in a lighthearted, comedic world within a new, mythic, science-fantasy universe.
"We are driven by a mission to create games where players can find friendship, community, and belonging," teamLFG stated. They aim to foster a sense of excitement and camaraderie among players, encouraging them to log on and connect with teammates. The studio emphasizes the creation of memorable moments and the development of myths and memes within the game community.
"We will make immersive multiplayer worlds propelled by action games that players can learn, play, and master for countless hours," they added. teamLFG plans to involve the community in the development process through early access playtests, staying adaptable to player feedback both before and after the game's launch to ensure continuous growth and engagement.

teamLFG's project emerged from Bungie amidst significant layoffs last year. Following Sony's acquisition, Bungie struggled to meet financial targets with Destiny 2, leading to the layoffs of approximately 100 employees in November 2023. A subsequent round of layoffs in 2024 affected another 220 people, or 17% of the studio's workforce, with an additional 155 employees being integrated into other parts of Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was during this period that the incubation project was spun off and announced.
Last year, a former Bungie lawyer praised Sony's role in pushing for improvements to Destiny 2, indicating a positive influence from the parent company. Recently, Bungie fully unveiled their extraction shooter, Marathon, and outlined the future roadmap for Destiny 2. They have confirmed no plans for Destiny 3 and have canceled a Destiny spinoff called Payback.
