Take-Two Interactive remains committed to maintaining legacy titles as long as they attract active players. Discover what this means for GTA Online's future.
GTA Online Could Persist Beyond GTA 6's Release
Take-Two Confirms Continued Support Based on Player Engagement

As fans speculate about GTA Online's fate post-GTA 6 launch, Rockstar Games hasn't provided concrete answers. However, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick offered reassuring insights during a February 14, 2025 interview with IGN.
While avoiding specifics about unannounced projects, Zelnick explained their general philosophy: "From a theoretical perspective, we maintain support for our properties as long as players remain engaged with those titles."

Citing NBA 2K Online's continued operation alongside its sequel in China since 2017, Zelnick noted: "We didn't sunset the original when we launched the sequel because both maintained substantial player bases." He emphasized their track record of "supporting legacy titles when communities remain active."
This approach suggests Rockstar and Take-Two would sustain GTA Online while servers remain populated, even post-GTA 6 release. Considering GTA Online's decade-long profitability, abandoning such a lucrative platform would contradict their proven business model.
Rockstar Exploring Platform Approach Similar to Roblox and Fortnite

A February 17, 2025 Digiday report suggests Rockstar's developing a UGC-focused online component for GTA 6, potentially transforming it into a creative platform akin to Roblox and Fortnite.
Sources indicate Rockstar "has engaged top creators from Roblox, Fortnite, and GTA modding communities about developing custom experiences" for the upcoming title. This UGC system would enable players to modify assets and environments, creating personalized sandbox experiences.

Beyond expanding GTA 6's audience through creator content, this model promises additional revenue streams via "virtual item sales and creator revenue programs." Rockstar hasn't officially commented on these reports.
Despite launching fourteen years ago, GTA 5 and Online remain among Twitch's most-watched games. Integrating modders and creators into GTA 6's online component could generate substantial cross-platform engagement.
