Battlefield Labs: Shaping the Future of Battlefield Through Community Collaboration
Battlefield Studios, in partnership with Electronic Arts (EA), has launched Battlefield Labs, a revolutionary player-feedback platform designed to directly involve the community in shaping future Battlefield installments. Announced on February 3, 2025, this initiative marks a significant step towards collaborative game development.
Direct Player Influence on Battlefield's Future
Battlefield Studios recognizes the crucial role of community feedback, particularly during a pivotal development phase. Selected players from European and North American servers will be invited to participate in the initial Battlefield Labs phase, providing hands-on testing of new game mechanics and features. While a precise release date remains unannounced, interested individuals can register their interest via a provided link.
Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn and Group GM for EA Studios Organization, emphasized the platform's importance: "This game has immense potential. Battlefield Labs empowers our teams to tap into that potential through pre-alpha testing."
While participation is initially limited, Battlefield Studios assures that updates will be shared with the broader community, ensuring everyone stays informed about the development process. Further community collaborations are planned for future Battlefield titles. The studio comprises DICE (creators of the Battlefield franchise), Ripple Effect, Motive (developers of Star Wars Squadrons and Dead Space), and Criterion.
Testing Core Gameplay Elements in Battlefield Labs
Battlefield Labs will focus on iterative testing of key gameplay aspects. The initial phase will concentrate on core combat and destruction, followed by weapon, vehicle, and gadget balancing. Feedback will also inform map design, game modes, and squad dynamics. The familiar Conquest and Breakthrough modes will be included, providing a framework for testing innovative improvements.
Conquest, a large-scale mode centered around capturing control points, utilizes a ticket system where teams lose tickets upon respawn or enemy flag control. Breakthrough, pitting attackers against defenders in a sector-based battle, also employs a ticket system, with attackers regaining tickets upon sector capture and bonus tickets for eliminating remaining enemies.
Refinement of the class system is another key focus. While confident in the current progress, Battlefield Studios recognizes the invaluable contribution of player feedback in achieving the optimal balance of form, function, and feel.
