The Witcher 4 State of Unreal Showcase
Powering The Witcher 4 and Beyond
Developer CD Projekt Red (CDPR) revealed on Twitter (X) that The Witcher 4 will feature a dedicated showcase at Epic Games’ upcoming State of Unreal event, scheduled for June 3 at 9:30 AM ET / 3:30 PM CEST. The stream will be broadcast live across Unreal Engine’s official YouTube and Twitch channels. Refer to the schedule below to determine the start time in your local timezone:
During The Game Awards 2024, CDPR provided fans with their first glimpse of how the fourth mainline entry in the Witcher saga will appear on Unreal Engine 5 (UE5). For this State of Unreal presentation, the studio promises to highlight "innovative technology & features that will power The Witcher 4, and beyond."
This event could offer players an initial look at The Witcher 4’s engine-driven visuals or even gameplay footage. To date, CDPR has only released a CGI cinematic trailer, which remains visually breathtaking and intriguing, especially given the reveal of Ciri as the new central protagonist.
Additionally, CDPR noted that the technology developed for The Witcher 4 will be utilized "beyond" this title. This suggests that UE5 may also drive other future projects from the studio, such as the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2, though no official confirmation has been made yet.
Every Game Must Have Something New
In a recent episode of CDPR’s AnsweRED podcast, co-CEO Adam Badowski discussed the future direction of The Witcher franchise and strategies for maintaining freshness. As the studio celebrates The Witcher 3’s 10th Anniversary, Badowski shared insights into their development philosophy."At the very beginning of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we decided to combine those two things: water and fire. We would like to continue with this approach with all our next games," he explained. Badowski stressed the importance of introducing novel elements in every project while avoiding repetitive mechanics from previous titles.
He added, "We have to add something that changes the consensus. We don’t want to copy our own tricks all over again and again. So every game should consist of something new." Badowski described this principle as a core company rule that contributed significantly to The Witcher 3’s success.
It will be fascinating to see what innovative concepts CDPR introduces in The Witcher 4 and how Ciri’s role as the protagonist influences both narrative and gameplay mechanics. The Witcher 4 is planned for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. A specific launch date has not yet been announced. For the latest updates on the game, visit our article below!
