Helldivers 2's meteoric rise shows no signs of slowing down, as it clinches two prestigious BAFTA Game Awards: Best Multiplayer and Best Music, out of five nominations. These accolades cap off a stellar awards season, underscoring a triumphant year for Swedish developer Arrowhead.

It's worth recalling that Helldivers 2 set a record as the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game ever, with an impressive 12 million copies sold within just 12 weeks. This landmark achievement is unlikely to be surpassed by any other first-party Sony-developed game. Yet, the journey since its explosive launch has been tumultuous: from the controversial reversal on PSN account requirements on Steam, to enduring review-bomb campaigns, and a community often in conflict with the game itself due to contentious nerfs and buffs.

Throughout these challenges, Arrowhead has grappled with managing a larger, more mainstream playerbase than ever before. Now, 14 months after Helldivers 2's debut on PC and PlayStation 5, Arrowhead is taking a moment to reflect on its journey. Has the studio finally mastered the demanding landscape of live-service gaming? Following their successful Killzone collaboration, could a partnership with Warhammer 40,000 be on the horizon?
